111th Street and Elwood Avenue to Open at 3pm on July 9th
THE 111TH STREET (ELWOOD AVENUE TO US HIGHWAY 75) IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IS ALMOST COMPLETE AND WILL OPEN TO ALL TRAFFIC BEGINNING AT 3PM TOMORROW, JULY 9TH!
The 111th Street and Elwood Avenue Improvement Project was one of the seven projects approved as part of a 2014 General Obligation Bond. This stretch of roads in Jenks closed to traffic beginning July 2020 for improvements, which include:
•111th Street from US Highway 75 to Elwood Avenue widened to 3-lanes with curb and gutter
•The 111th Street and Elwood Avenue intersection widened to 3-lanes each direction (each having a left turn lane, a right turn lane and a middle lane)
•Storm sewer constructed under the roadway and designed to accommodate future widening to an ultimate of 5-lanes
•The Coal Creek Bridge (just west of Elwood Avenue) widened to 4-lanes and includes a sidewalk on one side of the bridge and a trail on 111th Street that ties into the existing trail east of Elwood Avenue
There will still be some ongoing construction activities on this project in order to complete minor finishing details. These minor finishing elements should have minimal, if any, impacts to traffic as the contractor completes the project.
The City of Jenks extends its gratitude to the residents near the work zone, who have been patiently waiting for the construction to be completed and to Jenks citizens for passing the 2014 GO Bond which made this project possible.
The City is looking forward to providing a safer, more efficient commute in this area of town.
