Located east of Elm Street at Date Street, Veterans Park was the official project for Jenks' 2005 Centennial Celebration.
Facilities
Numerous facilities make this park ideal for family and community events, such as:
- Casting pond with handicap accessible fishing docks
- Children's playground
- Picnic pavilions
- Restrooms
- Tree plantings
- Veterans Memorial
Fishing
Fishing is allowed at Veterans Park through the "Close to Home" fishing program. Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) stocks the pond twice a year with catfish, bass and sunfish. From December through February, the pond is stocked with trout. State of Oklahoma fishing regulations (PDF) apply at this location. No permit other than an Oklahoma fishing license is required.
FREE FISHING CLINICS
ODWC coordinates educational programs that are offered to the public for free. The Aquatic Resources Education Program promotes the sport of fishing and educates the public on aquatic resources through its free fishing clinics every summer. Clinics are held at the Jenks Casting Pond next to the Oklahoma Aquarium; kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
For those interested in fishing or finding out what fishing is all about, the summer schedule (when available) can be found at ODWC.
