Wal-Mart bringing new Neighborhood Market to Jenks
Less than a month after announcing a new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Owasso, the retail giant has announced another one for Jenks.
Anne Hatfield, a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart, said the Bentonville, Arkansas-based chain hopes to open up the latest location in its grocery chain by the end of the year.
Tulsa-area land records indicate the company spent $1.86 million to buy 40.4 acres for the store at the northwest corner of Elm and 111th streets. The seller was Melody Development Inc.
Hatfield said construction on the 41,000-square-foot grocery should begin this summer.
Jenks’ location will be a full-service Neighborhood Market, complete with produce, meat and dairy products, bakery and deli items, household supplies, health and beauty aids, and a pharmacy with a drive-through, she said.
The location would be the third Wal-Mart has constructed within the Tulsa area over the last two years. The company first built a Neighborhood Market at 31st Street and Harvard Avenue in a space formerly occupied by Homeland. That location opened last year.
Earlier this month, Wal-Mart announced it would soon start construction on a Neighborhood Market at the southeast corner of 116th Street North and 129th East Avenue in Owasso. When finished this fall, it would be the second Neighborhood Market in Owasso.
When finished, these new locations would give Wal-Mart 11 Neighborhood Markets in the Tulsa area, two more than the number of supercenters in the area. The chain also operates four Sam’s Club locations.
